Alcocebre and Peñíscola
Alcocebre and Peñiscola are situated in the heart of the Costa del Azahar (Orange Blossom Coast), a most privileged area of the Mediterranean.
Alcocebre, with its geographical location (sheltered by hills, and basking by the Mediterranean) is "a unique paradise".
Peñiscola offers an exceptional landscape with its rock jutting out into the sea. Its castle was built in the 13th Century by the Knights Templar and was the residence of Pope Benedict XIII (Papa Luna). The local beaches have been awarded the Blue Flag in recognition of their clean water, fine sands and top quality facilities. Average annual temperature: 18ºC. In this warm, calm sea, sports are a great pleasure: sailing, surfing, underwater fishing, boating, etc.
In the surrounding region you will find towns and landscapes of outstanding beauty, well worth exploring:
- Morella: an old walled town with Gothic style buildings.
- Villafamés: with its Contemporary Arts Gallery...
- The Ebro delta: of great importance to lovers of flora and fauna.
- The Columbretes Islands: a natural protected area with restricted access, with diving excursions from Alcocebre harbour.
Castellón, with its seaside district, is a thriving, modern city. In the whole province there are excellent holiday and sports facilities, which, together with their orange trees and mild weather make your holidays on the Costa del Azahar unforgettable.
